E-Book Collections

The majority of titles in the CSU Shared e-Book Collection are hosted by netLibrary, a division of OCLC, Inc. A smaller grouping of titles is hosted by ACLS (The American Council of Learned Societies) at facilities located on the campus of the University of Michigan. Additional titles, hosted by netLibrary, have been acquired directly from publishers through CSU agreements with Gale Resources (Thomson Publishing) and ABC-CLIO Publishing. The Shared Collection was established in 2001 as part of a one-year CSU-wide e-Book Pilot Project. Additional titles were added to the collection in 2002 and 2003. As of July 1, 2003 there were more than 5,000 titles available in the Collection to all CSU students, faculty and staff.

Humanities e-Book: eMARC Records for Titles Acquired from ACLS (The American Council of Learned Societies)* in 2007

New records for ACLS Humanities E-Book are available via your browser from the following url: ftp.umdl.umich.edu/pub/records/

  • If you are a new subscriber or if you have not recently updated your MARC records, you need to download records from acls1-5b.zip and acls6a.zip in order to download all ACLS Humanities E-Book records to date.

  • If you only need to add the new titles, and your records are up-to-date with the last download in Spring 2007, you simply need to download acls6a.zip.

Downloads contain three files:

  1. The records in USMARC communications format
  2. The same records in ASCII format
  3. readme.txt - in ASCII format (explains what is contained in each of the above)

There is a discrepancy between the number of records and the number of books in the collection due to the fact that multi-volume works have a single record. A complete set will include 1604 records for 1691 books.
